TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Love Learning Tutors: Maths and Science
I have experience privately tutoring. I have volunteered as a maths and science teaching assistant in local primary schools and am now working as a Chemistry teacher in a secondary school in North London.
SKILLS AND INTERESTS
Aside from teaching, I enjoy going to live music and shows, going to the cinema and trying different restaurants in London. I really enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures. After my A Levels I went backpacking in Europe for 5 weeks and during university I travelled in Thailand. So far this year I have also visited Egypt and Iceland.
During lockdown when I couldn’t travel, I purchased a pottery wheel and have been trying to learn to throw pottery (not with much success). I have also collected an obscene number of houseplants.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
Teaching has consistently played an important role for me outside of my personal academic commitments. During sixth form, I enjoyed volunteering as a teaching assistant at a local primary school. My time was mostly spent working with Year 6 students, progressing from small group learning to leading the class in science lessons. By engaging in scientific thought with the pupils, I was able to explain technically challenging concepts and improved my own ability to communicate with a diverse audience. I felt privileged that some of the parents later hired me as a regular academic tutor; I taught several of their children in my local community, covering a broad range of abilities from Key Stage 1 to GCSE level.
Enabling disadvantaged students to meet their potential is a great motivating factor for me. At Imperial College, I was fortunate to achieve this by participating in the Undergraduate Ambassador’s Scheme. This involved acting as an assistant science teacher at a primary school in West London. The position was especially challenging and rewarding, as it required adapting teaching styles to a high prevalence of EAL (English as Additional Language) and SEN (Special Educational Needs) students.
Inspiring the next generation of scientists is my ultimate ambition. My enthusiasm for the subject grew throughout my chemistry degree at Imperial College London. Experiences gained here and outside of university established an in-depth understanding of chemistry that I am now eager to share. I have had the opportunity of putting this into practice through a vast array of school and private tutoring positions. These and my enthusiasm for motivating young people have affirmed my goals of a future in education.
