PERSONAL STATEMENT

I have been a private tutor for over six years and enjoy helping students of all levels and abilities to realise their potential. I work in the target language as much as possible and encourage my pupils to speak in the target language as soon as they get into the classroom. I find that pupils are often engaged by including cultural aspects of Germany and German-speaking countries, and similarly of France and Francophone countries.

I trained as a Modern Languages teacher of French and German at the IOE/UCL a few years ago and was awarded a British Council excellence in teaching scholarship to do so. I prefer one-to-one and small class teaching, where I can tailor each lesson to the needs and interest of the pupils.

I’m also a languages enthusiast: my pupils tell me that this is what shines through to them and makes them excited to learn.  I prefer to go back and teach some of the gaps in learning that can make a student feel a bit lost or underconfident.  I have taught  French and German from scratch, as well as working with GCSE students, where there was only enough time available to improve their exam outcomes by looking at the easier wins, coupled with exam tips and method.

I am interested and experienced in teaching online and divide my time between London and Kent.  I am available on a part-time basis and have the DBS certification already required for my tutoring work. As a person of colour, I have taken an active interest in the conversations about race in the classroom, and try to ensure that all my students feel comfortable and included.
