PERSONAL STATEMENT
Going from having a tough time in high school to doing a postgraduate degree at UCL, I have personally experienced the hardships of education and how a teacher can change a student’s life. This is why I know first-handed, how important encouragement is. I believe that a tutoring session should be just as much about developing confidence, as going over the syllabus. This is why my approach to tutoring can be considered as ‘child-focused’. I understand that each student learns differently, has different skills and interests. It is extremely important to focus on these, because ultimately, these are the factors that going to determine a child’s success. Therefore, a lesson should be interactive, concentrating on positive reinforcements and finding enjoyment in the subject areas. In my opinion, it is also crucial to build mutual trust with the student, providing a nurturing environment, so that the child is able to express themselves freely. There is nothing more fulfilling than to see a tutee becoming open to learning.
