PERSONAL STATEMENT
My initial interest in tutoring sparked in the fifth grade when I experienced, first-hand, the benefits of effective teaching. Till then, I studied under my mother, however, that particular year, she went overseas for work, and I was left to navigate through new topics on my own. I struggled quite a bit — from which I recovered once my family introduced me to a senior from my school. I studied under him for the next two years and realized the importance of a young tutor acclimatized with the educational curriculum.
A few years down the line as I became more proficient in my subjects, I wished to give back to my community by teaching and benefitting younger students the same way I benefitted. Initially, I began by tutoring my younger sister’s friends who were then in the sixth grade. As I gained experience in the various nuances of teaching, including how to regulate a student’s exam stress and introversion, I also greatly improved my communication with children. This elevated my ability to quickly engage in meaningful and friendly interactions, that not only allow me to explain challenging concepts better but also in gauging a student’s academic progress accurately.
Since then, I have gone on to tutoring for many formal agencies and institutions, and have also begun teaching older students sitting their GCSEs and A-Levels. Throughout my teaching career spanning over four years, I have been a creative tutor prioritizing conceptual understanding over cramming. Every subject is fascinating in its way, so if students are struggling with one, I believe they are not being taught to appreciate its depth and ties to practical life. As a tutor for LLT, I look forward to continuing this teaching style that has helped me immensely throughout my school life in addition to becoming a figure that my students can rely on. As mentioned, I firmly believe that a teacher plays an essential role in whether students like a particular subject. Therefore, I’m keen to try my best and instil within my students the same fascination that I have towards academics, in a vibrant and lively way!
