Explore Learning
I was a tutor at Explore Learning for nearly four years, where I had experience in teaching both online and in-person. I taught Maths and English up to GCSE level, for students aged 4-16. I also tutored students in preparation for 11+ entrance exams.
SKILLS & INTERESTS
I am a kind and friendly individual who enjoys building relationships with those who I teach. I have good communication, organisational, and teaching skills, as well as being positive and hard working. My interests include reading, baking, playing the piano, and sports such as tennis, dodgeball, football. I also enjoy running and going on long walks.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Explore Learning, Tutor
My role as a Maths and English tutor for children between ages 4-16 enhanced my ability to share my understanding with others and to confer enthusiasm for learning. The role also allowed me to take on a role of responsibility in which I had to perfect my time management skills.
Oxfam, Volunteer
During my A levels I worked as a volunteer in a customer-facing role, which involved working with cash on tills, and keeping the shop organised. This taught me how to work in a professional environment and enhanced my interpersonal skills.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I have been extremely fortunate throughout my education to have enthusiastic and kind teachers who could foster a keen motivation for and interest in learning. Throughout my years at both school and university, I realised that sharing the knowledge and academic skills I had acquired was something I wanted to pursue and came quite naturally to me. I have years of experience tutoring, and believe that I bring an enthusiastic, positive, and yet hard-working approach to the table. Building a relationship with the students I tutor has always been important to me, as a friendly relationship facilitates the growth and confidence of the tutor. Having grown up closely with my younger cousins and having only recently finished university, I am relatable to students whilst also offering a guiding influence that can spark enjoyment in learning and obtain results. I work well with both those who are finding things tricky at school or those who are high achievers but need some extra confidence in their own academic skills. A big part of achieving academically is enjoyment and finding an internal motivation to do well, which is something I seek to inspire in my students. I am confident in adapting my teaching style by age or preference and recognise that a vital part of academic success is providing what the examining body are looking for, through practise of examination and revision techniques. My own recent experiences in education enable me to give insight to the best exam and study approaches, whilst also enabling me to emphasise with any anxieties that my students might have. My tutoring style ensures that my students have a friendly and reassuring figure who will tailor to their needs, build their confidence, and encourage them to aspire to achieve top results.
