PERSONAL STATEMENT
The man who loves walking will walk further than the man who loves the destination. I find this quote very applicable to tutoring, especially in my case. Originally, likewise to many children, I obsessed over football, gaming, the like, struggling to spend time focusing on learning and studying. Whilst I’ve always been mathematically strong, subjects such as English and History would never fail to demotivate me, often receiving lower marks. I never grasped what examiners would look for, nor how I could possibly be interested in analysing (seemingly boring) poems.
This all began to change throughout my experience with tutors. Instead of looking at low grades and seeking constant improvement, I found that tutors who looked at my best aspects and encouraged me to develop these even further inspired a passion for learning, which is applicable to this day. This is a formula for tutoring I often use: every child is different and requires individualistic approaches to learning – motivation is a key driving factor. Exploring why children choose certain subjects allows me to align my tutoring with their interest in the subject. Moreover, I find understanding simple steps in exam papers always guarantees great marks; sometimes you just need to know what examiners are looking for.
Education wise, I’m passionate about mathematics and its applications in the real world – my PPE degree interlinks both quantitative aspects of economics and political science models with policy making and philosophical thought. Outside of education, I am passionate about fitness (having a fitness account to inspire people to improve themselves), playing the piano (despite currently struggling with sheet music), cooking (particularly trying different cultures’ cuisines), and playing football / sports with friends.
