SKILLS & INTERESTS

I am fluent in 3 languages Greek, English and French.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics, direction of Applied Mathematics, Specialisation in Didactics and Methodology of Mathematics and Part – Specialisation in Computational Mathematics.

In 2004, I started tutoring KS3 and KS4 Maths and Science. I worked with a plethora of students with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, Autism and dyscalculia, leading me to use a lot of different approaches and teaching styles, adjusting the session on the pace, the strengths and the needs of each learner to achieve the best results.

I have faced many challenging behaviours over the years, and I have overcome such difficulties with a sense of humour, compassion and genuine interest to understand where these behaviours came from.

In 2013, I enrolled in higher and further education, started successfully preparing students in groups of 10 – 20 for their A Level Maths and in 2016 I was employed by Orosimo College as the Head of Maths and Science KS4 level.

In 2020, I moved to the UK and I was first introduced to online teaching. I prefer using the Miro board for my sessions, GeoGebra, Wolfram Alpha (for Calculus mainly) etc.

I worked with ALN/ASD students for 2 years, and now I teach Maths and Science in Creative in Excellence.

My other than Maths hobbies include Sci-Fi movies, gaming, chess, rock music and travelling all around the beautiful Wales.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I have been teaching for nearly 20 years now, and somehow, every time I start the learning journey with a student, it feels like a brand-new experience. A new person to find out, a new rapport to build, new skills and strengths to discover, a curriculum to be explained from a new perspective, and ultimately a whole brand-new teaching approach and style. Witnessing a learner taking his first steps in Maths, engaging, having fun, succeeding, failing, learning and succeeding again, becoming more persistent as the Maths flame has sparked and finally working on his own, independently with confidence is one of the many great aspects that hooked me in this profession in the first place. My professional development aligns with my personal growth; Teaching helped me to always aim to become a better version of myself, embrace my strengths and weaknesses, allow myself to make mistakes and learn from them. And that is exactly what I aim to inspire my learners to do – to not fear Maths because of previous bad experiences, but allow themselves to try, to fail, to try again, to enjoy their lesson and finally achieve their goals. Making mistakes is a vital part of the learning procedure. I will be there throughout the whole journey to make sure that they gain deep knowledge of their syllabus, have fun learning new Maths skills, understand challenging and complicated topics, and overcome successfully every bump on the road.
