PERSONAL STATEMENT
I began tutoring after graduating from St John’s College, Cambridge, where I studied a BA in Theology and Religious Studies, specialising in Islamic Studies. My first experience of tuition was working for Studio Cambridge during one of their eight-week summer camps following my graduation, where I assisted with lessons and worked as a residential activity organiser for international students visiting England, many for the first time. The experience was so enjoyable that I pursued academic tuition after moving to London, working independently for a range of agencies, providing a mix of face-to-face and online tuition around London. After a few years of this, I specialised in exam entrance tuition, particularly for top UK independent schools based in and around London, particularly at 7+, 8+ and 11+. Additionally, I worked with A-Level students helping them prepare for upcoming exams in Religious Studies, English and Philosophy. Over my time spent tutoring, I have dedicated a significant amount of hours to charity work with students who are excluded from school due to social reasons, assisting them with either home-schooling or in preparing for upcoming public examinations. Furthermore, I have worked with children with ADD, ADHD, anxiety and low confidence, helping them with their studies and ensuring that they rebuild their confidence; in the process realising the potential they have to succeed. This work has been particularly rewarding.
I believe that every student can achieve greatness, however it is the tutor’s role to understand and implement the ideal learning environment for that particular student in order to get the best out of them, which is why my lesson plans are different for each student, tailored to their wants and needs. I believe that this is a key reason why my students have been so successful, whether taking entrance exams or public exams.
Personally, I tutor alongside my pursuit of a career in acting and writing. Alongside my tuition and my commitment to my students I write poetry and short stories, as well as honing my craft of acting through training programmes and my own discoveries. I have recently finished a year’s training in acting at the William Esper Studio in NYC, and have now returned to London to continue training through my own practices and continue tutoring. I am enthusiastic, patient and diligent when it comes to tutoring, and create a plan for each one of my students to succeed. I love art, films, books and sports, and love connecting with students on this basis too; helping them further their own interest in a field beyond the subject matter!
