PERSONAL STATEMENT
My love for tutoring stems from my relationship with my grandfather; a retired chemistry teacher and principal, Nanaji (Hindi for ‘grandfather’) has been staying with us in Dubai for the last ten years. Experiencing his passion for teaching so intimately has caused the same trait to be instilled within myself today. However, what is different about Nanaji’s approach to teaching is that rather than focusing thoroughly on equations, readings and formulas, he instead focuses on the familial bond shared between him, myself and my two siblings. From this learning experience, I tailor my own tutoring to mirror the same: I focus on creating an environment of trust and confidence with my students, such that learning becomes not a chore, but an interest. Equally, I believe that this environment can only be sustained through careful listening: by centralizing my teaching on listening and thus connecting to the personality of my students, I am able to not only personalize my style of learning, but also embed the student’s particular interests into learning material. Conjointly, having recently completed my IB education, I am able to relate to the concerns and anxieties of a student, as well as share first-hand guidance from my own recent experience with examinations and learning. Ultimately, I believe tutoring must reach beyond the conventional student-teacher relationship in a 20+ size classroom; it should instead nurture intellectual & mental confidence by creating a timeless bond with my students.
