SKILLS AND INTERESTS
Outside my studies I am a keen runner with interests in sport, the outdoors and nature. My favourite things to do are walking my dog in the woods or at the beach, running with my family or teammates, visiting my local nature reserve or baking some sweet treats. I can speak French to a conversational level and Spanish to a beginner level.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Whilst studying at the University of Exeter, I worked as a Peer Assisted Leader whilst at the and have experience mentoring and teaching students in lower years. I led insightful and interactive sessions for students to support their development.
Whilst on a professional training year at GSK as part of my undergraduate degree I volunteered as a STEM ambassador and was part of the onsite STEM engagement committee. This involved helping to organise in person work experience as well as online careers and learning opportunities for students online. This included specific careers and teaching sessions to inspire and educate students.
With St John’s Ambulance I have worked amongst a multidisciplinary team of professionals, towards the common goal of patient care. This has also included working with young cadets, training them to be the next generation of first aiders. I want to now continue working with young people, extending on my previous skills and experiences.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
Having personally experienced an incredible education through which I have learnt to love many of the subjects that I do, particularly biology and human physiology, I aspire greatly to being able to help or encourage others to enjoy their education as well. I am a keen learner with a resilient attitude which allows me to stay motivated and bring positivity to my projects. I want to motivate my pupils and support their growth academically and as a person. I want to increase their confidence as tutoring goes beyond the syllabus to support their development and greater interest in the material they are learning. Having completed my final year undergraduate degree in the year of 2021, a year completely online, I can relate to the trials of learning online. I understand that an integrated and interactive approach to teaching works and want to use this equip students with all the tools they need to succeed. During my placement year with GlaxoSmithKline, I received the Industrial Cadet Platinum Leaders award. This illustrates I am committed to personal development and public engagement, as well as passionate about science. I want to support my students in realising their potential, finding their true passion, and working towards reaching their goals. My primary school’s motto was ‘roots to grow and wings to fly’. As a keen lover of the outdoors and nature, I couldn’t emanate this more and want to support the next generation of students growing their roots so they feel strong and confident and wings so they can truly fly.
