August Facebook Live Line-up | Join for Free! Career interviews and Essay WS
We started our weekly live sessions to share with students (and parents) the various steps our guests have taken within their careers; what they studied at school, things they wish they could have known earlier, any advice to young people hoping to achieve similar goals. Our aim is to be a reminder that there is no "one-size-fits-all" and to provide inspiration, encouragement and practical ideas to try out.
This month our theme is "Put Pen to Paper", all our guests are writers in different capacities.

Sat 22nd August - Berg
A must-watch if...
You love music and want to know more about the songwriting process and a pursuing a career in the music industry.
Berg, (Alexandra Berglöf), is a Swedish and American singer songwriter in London. Berg grew up on a houseboat in Stockholm where she trained as a classical pianist until she was discovered by pop producers at 12. However it wasn’t until after university that Berg began a career in music in London. Now she has released 3 singles off of her EP Fake Love produced by Faris Badwan (The Horrors). Berg writes ethereal indie pop melodies and intimate lyrics about the ups and downs of human experience. She has been featured and reviewed by publications such as Wonderland Magazine, 1883 Magazine and Record of The Day and her debut single “What If” was chosen by Apple Music as one of the top 100 songs of 2019.
When she writes music she starts with a melody. That melody is the stepping stone to a mood, a feeling. The lyrics and the music then build that world and the song becomes my key to enter into that place.
She struggles with self criticism. You can’t write a song if you think it’s not good from the start. So you have to put that aside.
Music and writing is everything to Berg. It’s her outlet. Her diary. Her therapy. She can see how it helps her, but it also helps others.
Sat 29th August - Fabrizio Collins
A must-watch if...
You love acting, you enjoy writing screenplays or you're looking for some practical ideas on how to get writing.
Fabrizio is a professional actor working between London and Rome since 2015. He played the lead role in a variety of short movies with BAFTA winning companies such as the NFTS and up and coming directors like Silvia Clo Di Gregorio who won numerous awards for her projects. He Performed at the Royal Opera House and debuted on stage in 2018 with The Importance of Being Earnest, playing Algernon.
Fabrizio sometimes writes because the creative process of being an artist almost forces him to - in a good way. He was once told your ideas are not really your ideas, they are the world’s. It is your responsibility to immediately write down that idea, if you don’t the idea will go to someone else. It's best to ready with a pen and paper (or an iPhone) for when they come. Writing is having a story to tell. When Fabrizio writes, he writes screenplays as it is part of his job to create stories, it is incredibly difficult for him as he often thinks that what he has in his head has an innovative storyline, and when he actually start to type it, it doesn't always come out as planned. Having said this, when the stars align and he creates something that works, it's beautiful watching what was in his mind being translated into the story he envisioned on the page.
Our theme for next month will be University Courses and Applications. Speakers for September will be announced soon.
